Coco Gauff Responds, After Critics Call Her Naturally Coily Hair "Unkempt".

Coco Gauff embraces her naturally coily hair; also popularly known as the "4C hair texture"; frequently styling it in braids, puffs, or buns during tennis matches and in high-fashion campaigns.

In April 2026, the professional Tennis Star athlete shared photos of her wearing her naturally coily hair for a featured Miu Miu editorial shoot, in which she received online backlash labelling her naturally coily hair "unkempt".

To address the online criticisms of her hair, she responded highlighting that her natural, "un-slicked" hair was an intentional, minimal look, saying, "I love my hair in every state," while advocating for the representation of natural Black hair.

Further explaining that she wears her natural hair to avoid damage from constant styling, she also encouraged other young Black girls to embrace theirs, stating "If my 4C hair is good enough for that (a high fashion brand), yours is good enough"
