The BET awards was established in 2001, and takes place annually, to basically celebrate African-Americans, and other minorities in different categories such as music, sports, movies, and other areas of entertainment over the past year.
Various artists from different African counties also get to participate, get nominated and get the chance to win the BET award too, which also involves live performances from various artists, televised live on BET.
This year's BET award took place on June 29,2014, at the Nokia Theatre Los Angeles, California, with Davido bringing home the "Best International Act Africa" Award.
Lupita Nyong'o, Pharrell, Beyonce Knowles, Keke Palmer, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Nicki Minaj, Kevin Durant, Drake, Serena Williams and a few others, won awards in their respective nominated categories. The movie "12 years a slave" won "Best movie" (I still haven't seen this movie..sigh), "Happy" by Pharrell Williams won "Video of the Year", Lionel Richie won the "BET Lifetime Achievement Award"...
