The Classic Man In Knickers.

When I heard Jidenna's Classic Man for the first time on my sister's phone I thought, "Hmmn. It's alright" and ended it here. I should have figured that it was just the beginning.

All the while, the song's domestic publicist (amazing sister Sitrat) didn't let me miss her own versions of "I'm a classic man...". If she didn't sing it she played it, if she didn't play it she danced to it and if she didn't dance to it she hummed it.

Before I realized myself, I had become a better performer of the song than she was. Now, had I fallen in love with just the song? No Way!
I loved the whole package which came with Jidenna son of Oliver Udemmadu Ogbonnia Mobisson.

Since I am now an official No.1 fan of the Classic Man, I guess none of his releases should escape my knowledge. His collabo with Janelle Monae (Yoga) didn't, Long Live the Chief didn't and neither did Extraordinaire.
How then did his December single, Knickers, manage to move past my hearing?

Now that I have listened to and watched Knickers , Jidenna as far as I'm concerned is the authentic Classic Man. The Classified Classic Man.

The whole concept behind the music video was every definition of spectacular,  fascinating and funny (you'd agree with me when you focus on his dance steps). There's no exaggeration with the commendations.
I think it is well deserved  with a "Thumbs up"

SWANK! he called it.

While watching the video, I had little voices in my head say Time Travel! Time Travel! Indeed, Jidenna took us through time travel to the 40s- pretty early in the 20th century.

 Style was well defined
with the brilliant and artistic inclusion of the Ankara worn by the dancers.

This isn't even the first I have seen of the classic man embracing the indigenous material. It isn't uncommon for him to don a blazer with ankara lapels or a three piece suit finished off with an Ankara bow tie.

I do not know who inspired who with the idea of the Ankara-Vintageness,  but one thing I do know is that when Jidenna and Nikki Billie Jean- the designer of the Ankara costumes in the video, work together they produce a masterpiece.
