BRAND PROFILE
Eyola set up her eponymous label in the heart of London in August 2008, soon after completing her Master's degree in Milan at prestigious fashion school IED Moda Lab. Before embarking on her own fashion label, she trained at several world-renowned fashion houses, including Alexander McQueen. The fashion house has two lines: Eyola, the contemporary ready-to-wear line and Eyola Customised, an online virtual design companion assisting women to design their own classic wardrobe staples, with a focus on Savile Row-inspired sharp tailoring.
'Fashion sculptor' Eyola shares what inspired her to set up her self-named clothing label-
"My heart beats to an artistic tune. I'm always curious and always seeking out new ways to express my creativity. Fashion is a branch of the arts that I have always found fascinating. By launching the Eyola brand, I was able to satisfy an artistic craving that I have had since childhood. When designing, I adopt my own unique process of sculpting fabrics onto the female form. With a penchant for lavish textiles and ornate detailing, I create clothes that celebrate the intricacy of traditional nineteenth-century tailoring, coupling this with modern designs and my own unique creative flair. All these elements come together to produce a timeless piece of clothing to wear season after season." - Creative Director, Eyola
Eyola's Private Showoom fashion destination in Lagos
Eyola's Private Showroom opened its doors on the 8th of August 2014. The showroom is home to Eyola's two lines: Eyola, the contemporary ready-to-wear line (consisting of cocktail dresses, evening gowns and bridal wear) as well as Eyola's customisable blazer jackets inspired by Savile Row tailoring.
EYOLA'S COLLECTIONS
Eyola invents a new term for her capsule collection called an 'Octette', derived from the Victorian era's corset's figure-8 hourglass shape. Each octette is comprised of eight individually crafted designs, each with its own personality. The two octettes featured are Ruomra Tighl Octette and Yenruoj Octette. Ruomra Tighl rearranges the letters of the words ‘Armour [of] Light’ and Yenruoj rearranges the letters of the word ‘Journey’. Each Octette’s name follows this process of anagramming, inspired by popular nineteenth century anagram word games.
The Yenruoj Octette took inspiration from two citations:
“Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” - 2 Corinthians 4:16-18. “Let your mind start a journey through a strange new world. Leave all thoughts of the world you knew before. Let your soul take you where you long to be...close your eyes let your spirit start to soar, and you'll live as you've never lived before.”- Erich Fromm
The Ruomra Tighl Octete took inspiration from Doug Batchelor’s theory on truth and light being under constant attack from deception and darkness. Batchelor concludes that "although our armour and weapons are spiritual, this does not mean they are unreal or ineffective. Scripture urges us to ‘stand’ with the armour of light. If we don’t stand for something, we will fall for anything."
